Bob Betters with Watson Insurance Agency in Gastonia, N.C., passed away at his home Wednesday afternoon February 16, 2011 after a tough fight with brain cancer. Betters, who was appointed to the InVEST board of directors in 2009, served as the InVEST state champion for North Carolina and local liaison for Charlotte Catholic High School where he taught students the InVEST program every Friday.
Betters established the InVEST program at Charlotte Catholic in 2004 and since that time had taught more than 200 students the value of choosing an insurance career and how to be savvy insurance consumers. He took his commitment to InVEST seriously, both as an active board member and state champion, and he used any available opportunity to encourage other agents and schools to embrace InVEST, even volunteering his time to attend numerous conventions and training workshops to educate others about InVEST.
He was awarded the InVEST Dach award in 2006, an honor presented once a year to an InVEST liaison who has gone above and beyond for their students. He was also awarded the Earnest Young Education Award in 2008 by the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina for his dedication to the InVEST program in the state.
The InVEST board has agreed to award the top InVEST scholarships for the next five years to honor his commitment to InVEST. We thank you Bob for all you have done to bring young people into the insurance industry.
